Taking family portraits is always a treat because there are so many personalities and relationships to capture.
This young family was no exception. The Ohio fall weather was a little touch and go, but despite some drizzle and wind, we were able to have a great family photo session!
One of my favorite parts about my family photography is what I call the “character study.” My goal is to get to know the kids and really capture their different expressions and the many aspects of their adorable personalities. Their facial expressions will change over time so I want to capture and freeze in time some of them so that years from now, their parents can look back and remember those special times.
This sweet little girl gave me the full range with ease. She could switch from silly to soulful with just a few cues from me to guide her. Her children’s portraits are one of a kind!
Her brother is definitely the more serious of the two, but that didn’t mean we couldn’t tap into the goofy side of his personality! As a parent, I know how our iPhones are chock full of “smile for the camera” pictures, so I want to make sure families leave with actually “portraits” that tell the story of who their kids are at this very moment in time.
When I comes to family pictures, I’m really interested in family relationships and how the individual units work together in different pairings. So often, the family is lumped together as a whole. I always try to get all the combinations photographed and document special moments.
Speaking of “relationships” and “special moments”….this image makes me laugh so hard! Her face is a total future teenager look that she’ll give her brother! What started out as a blooper, quickly turned into an awesome and hilarious image for the album!
It was such a pleasure working with this fun family and I’m so grateful they chose me when looking for Family Photography Columbus. From wardrobe to location, everything came together just perfectly! They ended up with a great family album to document their personalities and relationships as well as some wall art to decorate their home!
